Kluge Appelle
Sind Appelle immer nur heiße Luft, zu allgemein, zu unverbindlich? Oder wie Süßholzraspeln, um andere Menschen zu streicheln, vor allem zu gewinnen? Aber ohne allzu großen Erfolg?!
Bei manchen Mitmenschen gehen selbst dringende Appelle ins eine Ohr hinein und wenig später durch das andere Ohr wieder heraus. Wie bei einer Stichflamme gibt es beim Hören nur ein kurzes (Auf-)Flackern; dann ist alles wieder beim Alten.
Bei anderen Menschen entfachen flammende Appelle nur ein Strohfeuer: Gefühle werden zwar bewegt, aber trotz der anfänglichen Begeisterung dringen sie nicht tief, weit und lang genug ins Bewusstsein vor. Und können das eigene Denken nicht durchdringen.
Auch ist es möglich, dass unverbindliche Appelle einen geistigen Schwelbrand verursachen, der glimmt, aber nicht zum Brennen kommt. Weil der Hörer kein Vertrauen in den Appellierenden hat. Es fehlt einfach genügend Sauerstoff, Offenheit und Glaubwürdigkeit. Und vielleicht existieren auch schlechte Erfahrungen mit ähnlichen Appellen oder ähnlichen Appellierenden.
Klar, wer seine Ohren mit Vorurteilen zustopft, hört nichts. Und wer nur das hört, was er hören will, weil es ihn bestätigt, hört nichts Neues. Aber einmal ehrlich: Kann man nicht auch Appelle hören, die dem eigenen und fremden Leben dienen (könnten), die einleuchten, nachvollziehbar und damit notwendig sind?
Kluge Appelle an die Vernunft – den gesunden Menschenverstand – und zugleich an das Gewissen – an das menschliche Herz – können Not wenden. Sie entzünden gleichsam ein inneres Lagerfeuer, das die Kälte einer Seele erwärmt, die Dunkelheit des Geistes erleuchtet und träge Füße des sozialen Miteinanders bewegt.
Und die Liebeserklärung Gottes „Jeder Mensch ist unendlich geliebt“, die nicht täuschen oder überrumpeln will, kann durch notwendige Appelle an die Menschlichkeit und unantastbare Würde einen Flächenbrand auslösen – politische Verantwortung sowie den Kampf um mehr Freiheit und Gerechtigkeit.

Clever appeals
Are appeals always just hot air, too general, too non-binding? Or like sweet talk to caress other people, especially to win? But without too much success?!
In some people, even urgent appeals go in one ear and out the other a little later. As with a tongue-in-cheek flame, there is only a brief (up-)flickering when listening; then everything is as it was before.
In other people, flaming appeals only ignite a straw fire: feelings are moved, but despite the initial enthusiasm, they do not penetrate deep, far and long enough into consciousness. And cannot penetrate their own thinking.
It is also possible that noncommittal appeals cause a mental smouldering fire that smoulders but does not burn. Because the listener has no confidence in the person making the appeal. They simply lack sufficient oxygen, openness and credibility. And perhaps there are also bad experiences with similar appeals or similar appellers.
Of course, if you plug your ears with prejudices, you won’t hear anything. And those who only hear what they want to hear because it confirms them, hear nothing new. But let’s be honest: Can’t we also hear appeals that (could) serve our own and other people’s lives, that are plausible, comprehensible and therefore necessary?
Clever appeals to reason – to common sense – and at the same time to conscience – to the human heart – can turn trouble around. They ignite, as it were, an inner campfire that warms the coldness of a soul, illuminates the darkness of the spirit and moves sluggish feet of social togetherness.
And God’s declaration of love „Every human being is infinitely loved“, which does not want to deceive or take people by surprise, can trigger a conflagration through necessary appeals to humanity and inviolable dignity – political responsibility as well as the fight for more freedom and justice.
